As David has now been victorious against the rebellion, he now returns to Jerusalem to secure the throne for himself, and as he does so, he is met by a mix of various responses, some selfish and faithless, others joyful and humble. So also, as Christ is now exalted as King of kings, it is imperative not only that we receive Christ, but we receive him rightly.

As God's foreshadowed kingdom in King David is still very small, we see that God is sovereignly at work to establish and increase it, despite the folly and sin of man. This ought to greatly encourage us that it is the zeal of the Lord that will increase His Kingdom, despite our shortcomings and sins.
