“Rightly Receiving the King”

2 Samuel 19:8b—15 and 24-30 - Jerry Scheumann

As David has now been victorious against the rebellion, he now returns to Jerusalem to secure the throne for himself, and as he does so, he is met by a mix of various responses, some selfish and faithless, others joyful and humble. So also, as Christ is now exalted as King of kings, it is imperative not only that we receive Christ, but we receive him rightly.

“A Safe Kingdom; A Sad King”

2 Samuel 18:19 - 19:8 - Jerry Scheumann

In the report of good news of defeat of the rebels of God and His Kingdom, King David receives it as bad news because of his guilt and his value of wicked son over the Kingdom of God. This warns us of the danger of allowing our loyalty to family to supersede loyalty to God and his Kingdom.
